Abstract

This study aims to examine the status of adīths included in the Third-Term Syariah subject syllabus for the Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM). The inclusion of adīths in educational syllabi requires critical verification, especially when such texts serve as primary references for thousands of students nationwide. Employing a qualitative research approach, this study utilises document analysis, inductive reasoning, content analysis, and the method of takhrīj al-adīth. Twelve adīths listed in the STPM Syariah syllabus were extracted and analysed using the method of takhrīj al-adīth. The results reveal that 75% of the adīths are aḥīḥ, while 25% fall under the problematic categories. This finding demonstrates that not all adīths presented in the syllabus meet the minimum standards of acceptability within the adīth sciences. Furthermore, the presence of weak adīths in educational materials may influence the formation of religious understanding among students and the public. The study recommends a comprehensive adīth verification initiative across educational references to ensure only reliable narrations are used. It also advocates replacing problematic adīths with sound alternatives available in established adīth compilations. This research contributes to the field of adīth studies by highlighting the importance of careful selection of narrations in contemporary Islamic education. The outcome of this study provides a foundation for further efforts to strengthen the authenticity of Islamic knowledge within Malaysias national education system.
